Today's themes: Noah, God's promises and the tower of Babel.
I'm not sure why the reading plan stops in the middle of a chapter. I guess because that's the end of that story. Kind of odd, tho.
* It was only after the flood that man could eat meat. Mom actually told me that from her Sunday school lesson. I'm not sure why exactly, but that was part of the covenant. Maybe that was supposed to take away man's violent streak. Thoughts?
* Don't go blabbing about people's problems. Ham was cursed because he went and told his brothers about Noah's nakedness instead of covering him up. Actions do speak louder than words in this case.
* When you work together, you can accomplish all sorts of things. Even God was impressed with everyone's efforts, although He knew they couldn't be allowed to continue the tower. There went man's pride thinking he knew best again.
So what are you learning from these readings? Share your thoughts so I don't feel all alone.

It's interesting how you can see a story that you've read numerous times from a different angle each time you read it. The tower of Babel story definitely got me thinking yesterday. It's interesting to consider what man would have been able to accomplish together had we not had such prideful motives. What would our world be like today if we all spoke the same language and hadn't been scattered by God?
Anyway, it's a good reminder to me to not try to accomplish things on my own, but to make sure that God is a part of everything I do.
I'm enjoying your comments and Leslie and I are definitely enjoying our readings each morning. And it's good to know there are friends out there doing the same.
It always amazes me how pride is at the forefront of so many problems. And a good reminder for all of us.
I have really enjoyed the comments too. I think about my life and people in it and how pride affects us. How we don't ask for help when we need it (a big problem for me) because of my pride. I have a cousin who's life is nearly distroyed with pride because he can't ask for help to stop drinking. Makes me think that it is time to be more humble!!
Here are some of my other toughts from this reading:
Gen 8 &9
Were Noah and his sons vegetarians for a time so the animals could repopulate? Did they repoplulate while still on the arch? Can you imagine the already small space getting smaller and smaller?
God makes a covenant but he doesn’t really need to…very interesting. How often do people who don't need to make promises actually make them? In life not too much.

Anyone know where there is a bible family tree? I read it but need to visualize it. There are so many people to track!
Do you have to memorize the family tree in Seminary? I am going to ask Cam!

Can you imagine living and being active for 200 years? I think of how much life I would see in my children, grand children, and great-grandchildren. How wonderful…or maybe it would be sad as some of the people in the Bible have found with brothers killing brothers, etc.
